Jeremy (the one on the left) is a good friend of mine that came from Beijing, China in order to study and practice Golf, a passion of his. We have first period and lunch together, but we never got to know each other’s backgrounds very well. I saw this assignment as a good opportunity to get to know him better.
Cultural Background | When asked what he thought was the most important aspect of Chinese culture, he answered: “showing respect to others”, not only elders and family members, but everyone, no exceptions. In his eyes, the Chinese always try to show respect towards each other. His favorite part of his culture is Chinese New Year, because it is a time where they wear new clothes, eat anything they want and as much as they want, and do pretty much anything that comes to mind. He believes that the least understood part of his Culture is Qing Ming festival, when the living celebrate their relatives that have already passed. He believes the festival is extremely meaningful and is also, coincidently, the day of his birthday. |
Family
Jeremy says he comes from a family of 2, composed of himself and his mother. His parents split when he was very young and his mother raised him on her own. She is strict with him, but does so because she wants him to strive to do his best and make his dreams come true. His relationship with his mother is good, they learn and take care of each other and have fun together.
